Helping Hampshire's Homes and Businesses since 1999
WHAT WE’RE ALL ABOUT
Computer Solutions Winchester was established in 1999 with one mission: to deliver high quality, low hassle computer support to home and business customers on an ad-hoc no contract fixed price basis. After twenty years and over a hundred thousand jobs, you can still just pop in to see us for advice or repairs, or in the post Covid world the ever more popular remote support service from £30 has been added.
HOW WE STARTED & DEVELOPED OUR EMPHASIS ON IN HOUSE TRAINING
We’ve been helping people with their computers since 1999, when a young James Dickens went to work for Paul Kane & Tom Gill in a new shop called “Computer Warehouse”, less because of it’s huge stock and more because of it’s warehouse like decor! We had a bench and a screw driver and people brought their problems to us. James was soon after made a junior partner with Tom and Paul and so it was for a few years.
Unfortunately first Paul and then Tom spent less and less time in the shop due to ill health and sadly both Tom Gill & Paul Kane passed away. Without them there would be no Computer Solutions and they are fondly remembered. However the business they started with a hand painted sign and a screwdriver continued with James, who owes a huge debt to both Tom & Paul for giving him the chance early on.
It is the same emphasis on giving young technicians a chance to grow and gain experience from their seniors that has remained the bedrock for our company and it started with James learning from Tom and Paul.
OUR TEAM – We train our technicians to a high standard, not just technically but in customer service and the ability to speak plain English. We pride ourselves on taking on work experience, young weekend staff and then allowing some of these through to apprentice level to develop technicians who understand customers as well as they understand the technology. Currently we have senior technicians Billy Borca who’s been with us for over a decade and James Dickens who as director (mentioned above), as well as a junior in training.
As a small team that has successfully managed tens of thousands of repairs over the years for over ten thousand customers we rely not only on our CompTia and Microsoft training but have gone further to develop our own standards of training and procedure for all manner of our technician’s basic training, from security to customer service.
OUR CUSTOMERS – In Winchester and surrounding areas we have a wide range of home, business and not for profit customers, ranging from training silver surfers at Age UK to fitting out the till systems at Jeremy France Jewellers.
WE TAKE IN OLD LAPTOPS FOR CHARITY – We collect and refurbish laptops for the homeless. The data is securely wiped and repair work is done as part of a training regime for work experience kids from the local schools we take in twice a year. So if you have an old laptop you want to donate please drop it in, the laptops are donated to the Winchester Churches Nightshelter (over the road from us, see for more details).

Soldering jobs such as power jack replacements cost £90, and jobs that require replacing glued down components cost £120 (due to manufacturers trying to make the machines difficult to service).
ON THE SPOT CONSULTATION SERVICE
We can help with a variety of software issues from £30 for up to half an hour, this includes small hardware jobs while you wait (such as fitting new hardware without diagnostics), short tutorials, a quick service to improve system performance or diagnostics to resolve a variety of software issues.
We can also help with a variety of issues remotely from the comfort of your desk.
CALLOUT SERVICE TO HOMES & OFFICES
We can visit your home or office to resolve hardware or software issues, setting up and giving training on new equipment, advise on home or office network/media setups, or even sharing and backing up your small office data.
The first hour of a callout costs £90 (including VAT) and £60 per hour thereafter for the same visit. Call (01962) 844700 to book a visit.
(All visits currently involve the technicians wearing PPE, social distancing and wiping down equipment where possible in line with government advice.)
BLOCKS OF HOURS
As well as one off charges we offer homes and businesses blocks of hours to use as quickly or slowly as you need them with no expiry date and allocated per quarter hour for remote support and her half hour for callouts. You may only need us once for help setting up an office VPN or migrating to the cloud, or once a week to help with problems on your home PC or Mac. Whatever your needs we believe the ad-hoc model saves you money if you will need multiple hours over the coming years and is likely to save you money on your annual support budget over one off ad-hoc repairs or a traditional maintenance contract.
